In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of ‘Beat It’, ‘Billie Jean’, and ‘Thriller’, were credited with transforming the medium into an art form and a promotional tool, and the popularity of these videos helped to bring the relatively new television channel MTV to fame. Through stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style have influenced numerous hip hop, pop, contemporary R&B, and rock artists.
Michael Jackson in his early years when he was first established in Jackson 5 was recognized for his family afro and his flared trousers, by the age of 11 he was a superstar. At 13 he went solo, growing up around famous people Michael starting to transform his image, his father reportedly nicknamed him “big nose”, which led to his first plastic surgery- his nose job.
MJ was in the public spotlight since he was a small child. In that time, he transformed from a cute little African-American kid with a 70s afro into a thin, light-skinned man in a black wig with a comically tapered nose. His plastic surgery is so obvious that it’s the stuff of urban legend. People have long speculated that he bleached his skin for cosmetic purposes, and prescription lightening cream was even found among his effects at auction. Jackson said he suffered from the auto-immune disease vitiligo, which lightens the skin in patches. That same cream is used to treat his condition and it’s possible that once Jackson opted to lighten his skin there was no going back and trying to cover up the parts that lost pigment.
Not only did his physical appearance change but his wardrobe also took a turn, from flares to leather to tall collared shirts. CD Cover Analysis

Christina Aguilera’s 2002 album ‘stripped’. On the album cover the background is completely white, this makes the main focus the image of her, she is wearing no top, and her chest is covered by her hair, this relates to the name of the album ‘stripped’ this could suggest that she is not only physically stripped but also emotionally and will portray that in the songs of the album. The image itself is in black and white, this makes it stand out compared to other albums on the shelves, it also relates but to the name of the album, it being stripped of colour. Christina Aguilera has always strived on being a sexually liberated woman; this album cover is no different. Other pop stars of her time like Britney Spears had the good girl appearance; the innocence sold her copies of cd’s. Christina has taken the opposite approach and adapted the bad girl look, this serves her well because her music appeals to teenage girls, but her look attracts the audience of teenage boys. The album cover is very simple but effective; the font stands out and is easy to read. With the simplicity of the cover it relies of Christina Aguilera’s image to sell herself.

London Calling is the album by the English punk rock band The Clash. It was released in 1979 and has that old school punk look, the graphics being minimalistic but has become an iconic image that is widely recognized. The image shows Paul Simonon smashing his bass guitar against the stage, this represents the edge and the stereotypical rock and roll image that the band always shows. The setting and Paul’s posture represents the genre of the music. The image is black and white, with the focus on Paul Simonon. The album name ‘London Calling’ is also a main focus due to the bold easy to read font and coloured lettering, with ‘London’ written in pink and ‘Calling’ written in green. The band name ‘The Clash’ is written in a similar font, although smaller and in plain white. This shows that the band already have a wide fan base as other artists would normally make this the main focus.
